Music, Books and Community: Friends of Duncan Library at Music Trivia Bingo
There is nothing better than some music trivia, pizza, adult beverages, a little friendly competition, and—of course—books.
Friends of Duncan Library was thrilled to be the beneficiary of Music Trivia Bingo at Piece Out on September 16, an evening that brought our community together while raising more than $500 to support Duncan Library through a generous contribution from Piece Out and donations from participants.
The evening was also an opportunity to do something equally important: introduce more of our neighbors to the incredible impact Duncan Library has on our community.
Using Trivia to Tell Duncan's Story
While DJ Thunder Bunny tested the crowd’s music knowledge, Friends of Duncan Library added some trivia of our own throughout the evening, using questions about Duncan Library to give participants a sense of just how much happens inside our neighborhood library.
And the answers were pretty impressive.
Duncan Library is just over 15,000 square feet, but in 2025 it:
Welcomed 157,721 visitors to the library.
Circulated more than 300,000 books.
Offered 242 adult programs, with 2,852 attendees.
Proviced 411 children's programs, drawing more than 22,000 attendees.
By turning those statistics into trivia questions, we were able to have some fun while also helping participants better understand the scale of Duncan's role in the community. Hundreds of thousands of books circulate through the library each year, and hundreds of programs bring children, families and adults through its doors.
That's a tremendous amount of activity packed into 15,000 square feet.
Helping Duncan Do Even More
Our Duncan Library trivia also gave us an opportunity to highlight how Friends of Duncan Library helps support that work.
One of our biggest commitments is books. The Friends match dollar for dollar what the City provides Duncan Library for books, helping significantly expand what the library can offer its patrons.
We also provide funding specifically for high-demand books, allowing Duncan to purchase additional copies of popular titles and better respond to what our community wants to read.
And our support doesn't stop with books. Friends funding helps make programs for children, teens and adults possible, providing additional resources for the educational, cultural and community programming that brings thousands of people to Duncan each year.
Every donation, every book purchased at one of our sales and every fundraiser like Music Trivia Bingo helps us continue that work.
Books Make Pretty Good Prizes, Too
Naturally, we couldn't have Friends of Duncan Library participate in trivia night without making books part of the prizes.
A special thank you goes to our book sorters, who went through our donated books and pulled some terrific music-related titles to create prize baskets for the evening. As the photos show, they found some great books to match the night's theme.
The Piece Out team made the prizes even better by donating St. Elmo's Coffee Pub gift cards for the winners. A cup of coffee at a favorite local hangout is a wonderful way to enjoy a book.
Most importantly, thank you to Piece Out for hosting us, supporting Friends of Duncan Library and making us the beneficiary of such a fun community event. And thank you to everyone who came out, played along, learned a little more about Duncan Library and contributed to the Friends.
Together, we raised more than $500 to support Duncan Library and had the chance to introduce even more people to the extraordinary work happening every day inside our neighborhood library.
For a building of just over 15,000 square feet, Duncan Library has a very big impact, and Friends of Duncan Library is proud to help make that impact even bigger.
